Oral Examinations

Oral examinations by a dentist are crucial to assessing your oral health. X-rays may also be needed to detect problems between teeth, under the gumline and the position of impacted teeth and cracks or fractures. Routine oral examinations are an integral component in preventative dental care. Through consistent exams, we will be able to discover and address dental issues before they snowball into bigger problems that require more time, effort, and expense.

Dental Hygiene

Regular preventive hygiene appointments with our registered dental hygienists are a key component in the long term health of your teeth and gums. Dental cleanings remove the plaque around teeth that can lead to gum disease and possible tooth loss. A consistent schedule of dental cleanings helps prevent future oral health disease.

Fillings

molar cavity by BomSymbols from the Noun Project

A filling restores a damaged tooth back to normal function and shape. When you receive a filling, the dentist removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the area, and then fills the cavity with a filling material.

Fillings prevent bacteria from entering and further decay. At Cowrie Street Dental, we believe that different filling materials give superior outcomes and prognosis dependent on the situation. By utilizing materials from composites to fluoride-releasing restorative material, we strive towards a standard of care that includes using the right materials and tools for the right tooth and scenario.

Root Canal Treatment

root canal by BomSymbols from the Noun Project

Root canal treatment, or endodontic treatment, is the process of removing infected, injured or dead pulp from your tooth. It is designed to save badly damaged or diseased teeth. The space inside the roots of your tooth is filled with soft dental pulp made up of nerves and blood vessels that help your tooth grow and develop. This tissue is removed and the space is sterilised and filled with a special material to seal the root off. The tooth will often require a crown to provide long-lasting protection. As with other procedures, a local anaesthetic is applied to the tooth. Despite its notoriety, root canals are not more painful than routine fillings.

Crowns

Crowns are often recommended on teeth that require mechanical strengthening. Teeth that require this procedure often have very large fillings from previous large cavities, or are teeth that have fractured or are showing the signs and symptoms of a precarious crack in the tooth. Teeth that have had root canals are also often recommended to be crowned due to their structural weakness. Crowns allow us to be preventative, and not a reactionary, when it comes to the structural integrity and overall prognosis of your teeth.

Bridge Dental Restoration

Dental bridges are fixed, or permanent, restorations that replace one or more missing teeth. Generally, bridges are made of two crowns with a suspended artificial tooth fused in between. Bridges can also replace larger numbers of teeth when supported by dental implants. Bridges are an effective and beautiful treatment that can provide excellent, durable results while helping to improve speaking, chewing, and a variety of other problems associated with missing teeth.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are used to replace missing roots and support the replacement teeth. They are anchored to your jaw with an artificial tooth root, making them a permanent part of your mouth.

Dental implants restore both function and appearance and look like natural teeth. Implants are an alternative to bridges, partials or complete dentures and offer a more permanent and natural solution to enhance your smile, improving chewing and speaking. They require no extra maintenance beyond regular brushing and flossing.

Whitening

Your smile is important. It’s one of the first things that is noticed when you meet someone. A whiter, brighter smile is beautiful – it can help you feel better about yourself and make a memorable impression. Your lifestyle and the ageing process can stain and darken your teeth. Many things we do on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth, such as drinking coffee, tea, cola, red wine or smoking. At Cowrie Street Dental, we offer at-home teeth whitening treatments that are designed to improve the appearance of your teeth and help you feel confident about your smile.

Mouthguards / Sportsguard

dental protection by BomSymbols from the Noun Project

Sports injuries to teeth and gum tissue are more common than most people think. Custom-fitted mouthguards reduce the severity of, or prevent, injuries to the teeth and soft tissues of the mouth, especially in those who wear orthodontic appliances. More importantly, a mouth guard can prevent serious injuries such as concussion, cerebral haemorrhage, neck injuries and jaw fractures by lessening the impact of the lower jaw crashing into the upper jaw.

A mouth guard should be well-cared for, cleaned thoroughly after every use, and stored in its case when not in use.

Invisalign

Invisalign® is an advanced orthodontic treatment designed to straighten and help correct bite issues, using a series of clear, removable teeth aligners instead of traditional metal braces to increase comfort and convenience. If you have poorly aligned teeth or certain bite issues (over-, under-, or cross-bite), Invisalign® can improve your smile with minimal interruption to your daily activities and without others even noticing you are undergoing treatment.

It must be emphasized that Invisalign is not the right fit for everyone, and that there is always a need for traditional orthodontics in the world of dentistry. However, through gathering information about how your teeth are aligned and what movements we desire, we can discuss if Invisalign is a good fit to improve your smile esthetics and function. We want to make sure the ultimate result is one you’re happy with, and this starts from evaluating if Invisalign is a viable option to meet your goals.

The Invisalign® Process

  1. Initial Consultation with us will determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign®. You can also ask questions and we can determine costs and insurance.
  2. Treatment Plan is formed by gathering information: we take x-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth to create a digital 3-D image of them. Using these images the will determine an Invisalign® treatment plan, including the exact movements of your teeth. The approximate length of treatment will also be determined.
  3. You Receive Your First Invisalign® Aligners A series of custom-made, clear BPA free aligners is made specifically for you. Wear them throughout the day (at least 20 hours), and remove them to eat or clean your teeth. The aligners gradually shift your teeth to the desired locations.
  4. You wear your subsequent Invisalign® Aligners every two weeks, you will switch to wear a new set of aligners as your teeth move to their desired locations. We will book you for an appointment approximately every six weeks to check on your progress until you are done!
